It starts...

"A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that
the balances are correct."

The astute reader will recognize the opening quote from Dune, my favorite book, written by Frank Herbert in a time when it was normal and acceptable for people to dream. What I like about Dune is that it all seems so old - a feudal society living in a distant future time.
I see Second Life in the same way. It is so old to me, and yet it is something so incredibly new and futuristic to most people. Somewhere along the line, I acquired a reputation for claiming to having seen and done everything in Beta. More on that later ;)

Why is is that tekkies like you who are supposed to be progressive and paving the way to the future always recoil and fall back and embrace feudal despotic worlds like those envisioned in Dune? Why is a medieval, harsh world with tiny groups of elites in control and relentless persecution of dissent something you'd celebrate? Oh...

I also love Dune! The atmosphere, the story... everything about it! :)

First of all congratz for the "opening" of the blog. You are now on my list of "read every day" blogs so you better post something now and then hehehe
As for Dune it is a reference in SciFi books and I think a good choice for the first post.
Turning old things into new is always a good challenge and it looks like you can do it ;)
